Growth of Hair Salon Cut to the Feeling

Cut to the Feeling hair salon, on Grand between Olympic and 11th in a ground floor space at 1000 Grand, has been growing its space and number of stylists which is good news for South Park residents.

Kim Moreno, owner of Cut to the Feeling, opened her salon June 1, 2018. Kim has been doing hair for 22 years and her passion has never waned. She specializes in blondes including highlights, balayage, and platinum. Her passion extends to her desire to connect with people and to give them a look that they love. Kim’s motto is, “Look good, feel good, do good.” Kim believes that when we feel good about ourselves, we are more likely to have positive encounters with others and to pass that feeling on.

Kim was the sole stylist until 2019 when Lauryn joined her part time. Lauryn has been doing hair for more than eight years. She enjoys having fun with her clients as they experiment with vivid color and edgy cuts!

Now Hannah has joined the Cut to the Feeling team. Hannah has been doing hair for about 10 years. She enjoys all hair types and being creative with color. She is very passionate about her clients and loves connecting with them.

When Kim opened her salon, she and her husband lived in the space behind the salon. In 2021 they started planning the expansion of the salon, then they moved out, and finally they expanded the salon in 2023.

The new space doubles the original size of the salon. A feature I enjoy is the new wash bowls that are shaped to provide a more comfortable position during the shampoo stage. Of course, my favorite part of the shampooing is when Kim spends time on my scalp massage. The space also has a nice seating area and additional chairs for even more stylists.

Kim and her husband are committed to South Park. They attend SPNA events as well as contribute raffle items. Recently, Kim was at the bellaTec sisterhood event hosted by bellaTec and SPNA where she participated in the workout but also shared her products with the attendees. Kim says she just lucked into South Park. She knew she wanted to be in downtown LA. She found her current space and realized quickly that South Park was where she wanted to be. She enjoys watching clients and neighbors walk by daily, peeking in and waving (that is me), and feeling great about being a part of the neighborhood.

“Throughout the pandemic, the heart of the neighborhood was apparent.” Clients supported the business even when they were not able to come into the salon. Kim would create at-home packets for clients. “I spoke to multiple people who were deliberately giving their business to local businesses to make sure they stayed afloat. I think that speaks volumes about how great this community is, and how lucky I was to find myself here. I look forward to continuing to grow here and giving back as much as I can.”

And that is what I like most - Kim! She loves South Park, the residents, the businesses, and the dogs! She knows everything that is going on in the neighborhood. She is my source for story ideas for the SPNA monthly newsletter. Be sure and check out each SPNA newsletter for the latest brought to you by Kim. And make your appointment today to connect with Cut to the Feeling’s passionate and fun stylists – Kim, Lauryn, and Hannah.
