Café Basque Now Open at The Hoxton Hotel

The Chicago-based Boka Group has opened its latest restaurant, Café Basque, on the ground level of the Hoxton Hotel at 1060 S. Broadway, adding to its other popular restaurants in DTLA, The Girl and the Goat (Arts District) and Cabra (rooftop of The Hoxton).

“At Café Basque, we pay tribute to classic French tradition and the fiercely independent and culturally distinct southwest coast of France, a region with cuisine most recognizable for its use of sweet and mildly hot peppers. Chef Daniel Rose adds his unique local perspective, utilizing the high-quality products from land and sea abundant in California,” according to its website.

My wife and I visited the Café the other evening at 5:00 pm. We had our choice to eat in the dining room, which was updated by AIME Studios I Ennismore, or in the bar area between the hotel check-in and the coffee roasters. We chose the bar and were provided with the Les Cocktails and pintxos menu (available after 3 pm) and full dinner menu (available after 5:00 pm).

We settled on delicious libations of Fleur D’Anis and Espelette Negroni. We met a couple in transit from a cruise back to Wales. They had eaten at Café Basque prior to their cruise and shared the Poulet Basquaise (chicken with ham, tomato, onion & peppers) for 2 people for $47. They both raved about it. Other entrée menu options include prime ribeye, grilled duck breast, striped bass, prime sirloin, pork neck, rockfish Ttoro, all with fancy French names. The average “plat” costs between $30-$40 with “pintxos” and “accompaniments” extra. We did not stay for the food, but everything looked delicious. If it is anything like the other Boka Group restaurants, we are confident that Café Basque will be a success for our South Park neighborhood.

Soon Café Basque will be open for breakfast, lunch, brunch, and dinner from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm (11:00 pm on Fridays and Saturdays).
