Happenings - Updates in the Neighborhood

Community Walks

SPNA is continuing their Community Walks which started with the January Cleanse. We invite you to mark your calendars for the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6 pm starting at Wishbone Park (Grand between 11th and 12th next to Pine and Crane). In addition to a 30+ minute walk around the neighborhood (different routes each month), there is also an option for a “rest stop” at a neighborhood establishment for refreshments. Nice walk, nice neighbors, nice way to end a day. Join us on Thursday, March 21 at 6 pm at Wishbone Park!

Fresh Seafood Available in South Park NOW

Fisherman’s Catch, a recent addition to the South Park Farmers Market every Saturday from 10 – 2 pm, is a family-owned business. The son of the owner was on-site selling fish, answering questions, and providing fabulous fish options. “The fish we don’t catch, we purchase from high-quality vendors. If we don’t eat it…we won’t sell it.” This week I am enjoying sushi-grade tuna, Scottish salmon, lox, and scallops. Next week I am looking forward to oysters and mussels!

South Park Pharmacy Wine Tasting

Enjoy Wine Night on Wednesday and Friday nights from 6 – 10 pm at the South Park Pharmacy, Grand at 12th Steet. A wine flight is $25. An easy walk from anywhere in South Park, in addition to wine tasting you can peruse their bottled wine selection before returning home. Tonight, I am enjoying a 2019 Malbec – El Enemigo (The Enemy) - from Mendoza, Argentina. Cheers!

Waymo

Interested in the self-driving ride hail service by Waymo? March 4 at The Shrine Auditorium at USC (665 W. Jefferson Blvd 90007) from 11 am – 4 pm, Waymo has a pop-up event. Or check out www.waymo.com/tour for more information.

Did you read the SPNA article in the October newsletter when two SPNA writers tried out the Waymo ride from South Park to The Arts District? Check out Aileen and Debra’s Riding with Waymo.

Cow Café Added New Hours + Alcohol

Cow Café at Pico and Grand has added hours on Friday and Saturday from 4- 7 pm in addition to their 8 am to 2 pm hours Tuesday through Sunday. Closed on Mondays. Plus they added beer and wine to the menu.

LA Conga Room at LA Live Closing March 27

For 25 years, The Conga Room (an LA landmark) has been a part of downtown LA beginning on Wilshire Blvd. before moving to LA Live in 2008. The Conga Room “brought Latin music to the forefront…became part of the cultural fabric of Los Angeles,” according to the Hollywood Reporter. The Conga Room’s Farewell Celebration on March 27 will be hosted by actor Jimmy Smits and comedian/actor Paul Rodriguez along with many others.
