Sonoritas - A Sonoran Style Restaurant in South Park

Sonoritas Prime Tacos located at 1050 S. Flower St. quietly opened in June 2021, during the height of the pandemic fears. Fortunately for the residents of South Park, Sonoritas survived a tough start, and now we are reaping the rewards of this wonderful Mexican cuisine.

Sonoran food has been around LA for hundreds of years since the founding of LA by Jose Vicente Feliz who was the first mayor of LA and was born in Sonora. “We hope to continue this tradition in this area for hundreds more years,” said Josh Soliz, Sonoritas DTLA Manager and HR Manager. “We love being a part of this neighborhood and community. And we hope to continue giving a taste of Sonoran northern Mexican style food to the area.”

Their philosophy - “we believe food should be prepared with nothing less than the best. That’s why our salsas and dishes are all made from scratch. Made with only seasonal, local, and preferably organic ingredients, even our corn tortillas are homemade!”

According to Josh,2023 saw some positive changes to the restaurant. “We have added additional menu items Mar y tierra fajitas, Mojito de Jamaica, Shrimp bucket.” However, Josh advised me that “the most popular items are still the Mar y tierra burrito and Hibiscus margarita.”

In addition, they brought back the partially enclosed patio on the sidewalk along Flower Street.” Josh confirmed that “There was a patio here when the previous restaurants were operating. Two years ago, we changed the layout of the tables and added tables and decoration. The entrance was also on this side when Rivera was open in 2005.  And we changed it back to its original place.  So that everyone saw the whole restaurant when they visited.”

Sonoritas was embraced as one of the best restaurants at SPNA’s A Taste of South Park held in Sept 2023. According to Josh, “We loved being a part of South Park. Getting to know our neighbors and all the staff of SPNA was a delightful experience.”

I can honestly say that Josh is one of the nicest, dependable, hard working, and accommodating individuals working in South Park. His positive attitude along with the quality of food, tequila drinks, and service are why I continue to frequent Sonoritas for both lunches and dinners. Te veo alli.
