South Park Representation Needed on Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council
South Park has five representatives on the Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council (DLANC)– three resident positions and two business positions. All positions are up for re-election in April 2025. BUT filing for these positions begins at the end of December. Are you interested in applying to represent South Park?
What is DLANC?
DLANC serves as a liaison between downtown residents and city government. DLANC takes up the causes submitted by residents. Its members advocate for solutions to our problems. Because it is an elected recognized organization, it has the connections to city government that can help to solve our problems. DLANC is comprised of six downtown neighborhoods – South Park, Fashion District, Historic Core, Arts District, Skid Row/Central City, and Civic Center/Financial District
What does DLANC do?
DLANC has eight committees – budget and finance, executive, foreign and domestic affairs, livability, outreach and communication, planning and land use, rules and selections, and urban issues and resources.(see https://dlanc.com/committees/ for more information on committees).
The committees do the heavy lifting when problems and issues are submitted. They find the answers and solutions. The committees report to the full board for approval.
What are the responsibilities of an elected DLANC representative?
Each representative serves on at least one committee and participates in all board meetings and decisions. Each is also responsible for representing their constituents which means playing an active role in their neighborhood, listening to their neighbors, and representing the entire neighborhood.
Why does South Park need representation on DLANC?
DLANC is the connection to government that residents can easily access. South Park has five representatives that live and/or work in South Park. They are your neighbors. They know the issues, problems, concerns. They have access to the avenues of city government to take up a cause, work for a solution, and voice the concerns of the neighborhood.
