SPNA’s Summer Solstice, June 20th Celebration at The Mayan Food, Drink, Tours, Featured Music by Raine Stern

It’s the longest day of the year, the first day of summer, it’s the summer solstice! There is probably no better way to celebrate than with your neighbors in South Park at the highly unique, energetically upbeat venue of The Mayan (on Hill between 11th and Olympic).

Welcome to the Mayan!

If you were able to join SPNA last year at The Belasco, you will have a small sense of what the event at The Mayan will be like. I am always mesmerized by the outside Aztec-designed structure as I walk past. However, the interior is even more titillating. As its website calls out, “A beautiful historic landmark that is equipped with an unprecedented inventory of high-tech audio, lighting, and video equipment.” I just love that the textured walls, Aztec calendar on the ceiling, and fixtures literally tell a tale of its rich history.

The Los Angeles Historic Theater Foundation will conduct tours of the 97-year-old structure with highlights including a list of events etched on the walls from 1927, rooms that were used for making porn movies, pictures showing what life was like in DTLA back in the day, original tiled floors, Aztec Calendar chandelier, and its original pulley system stage curtain.

And there is more! The featured live music will be performed by the talented Raine Stern. Catch a preview glimpse here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5wUY-uhNC0

Tacos and sliders will be prepared and served by South Park restaurant, the art room. The Mayan will offer an assortment of exotic top shelf drinks via its “no host” bar. DJs, photo ops, and desirable raffle prizes will help keep the energy level high all night long.

The evening’s cost of $20 in advance and $25 at the door is due to our incredible South Park sponsors including: The Mayan Club, Lagree213, Throw Clay LA, MedBeautyLA, Kennedy Wilson, El Sativo Tequilla, and Michael Robleto @ Compass.
