Your Voice is Needed + Your Vote is Needed
The loudest voice of voters gets the ear and attention of our elected officials. When you vote, the collective voice of South Park and Downtown LA is heard. If we want to wield more influence in tackling the unique problems of DTLA, we need more voters.
Click on www.lavote.net to register to vote or to update your mailing address to your current location to receive your mail ballot and to vote on South Park issues and representation.
In the 2016 presidential election, only 2,306 votes were cast in downtown. In 2020, the number rose to 20,334. But that is still low compared to nearby neighborhoods. We can do better.
We need our elected officials to help - stop the drag racing and noise pollution, employ better tactics when celebrations (Rams, Lakers, Dodgers) spill into the South Park neighborhood causing issues with graffiti, fireworks, traffic shutdowns, and vandalism, and find solutions to the exploding homeless issues.
Vote! Let your voice be heard.
Livability Committee of DLANC and South Park
Drag racing and e-scooters are two issues the Livability Committee of Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council (DLANC) has submitted requests for action to Council Districts 14 and 9 and Los Angeles Department of Transportation.
DLANC is an advisory governmental body of the City of Los Angeles, and as our most direct communication channel to the Mayor, City Council, and City Departments. DLANC advocates for the community on land-use development, quality of life, public safety, homelessness resources, and other issues that impact living and working in Downtown LA.
SPNA will work with the Livability Committee to advocate for South Park.
In February, the Livability Committee requested that LADOT create a Special Operations Zone (SOZ) for e-scooters and other dockless mobility devices,
In March, they wrote to both Council District14 and Council District 9 regarding the street racing takeovers that have been occurring regularly at major intersections across Downtown requesting increased overtime funding to LAPD, as well as for LADOT to explore installing traffic control devices as a long-term solution.
The Livability Committee meets from 7:00 – 8:30 pm on Zoom the Thursday following the DLANC Board of Directors meeting (which is on the second Tuesday of the month). Click here for the Zoom meeting information and the agenda which is posted 72 hours in advance.
