Coffee + Magic = Life at Ideology Coffee, Now Open on Hope Street

“Life is a combination of magic and coffee” is the message on the wall at Ideology Coffee at 1115 S. Hope (formerly Nimbus which also had some magic). I agree. For me, coffee has always been magic - it wakes me up, increases my energy levels, improves my mood, and stimulates my thinking. Plus, there are the magical health properties of coffee!

I had the pleasure to discuss coffee, roasting, and what makes Ideology Coffee unique with owner Paul Kasavetes. Paul and his wife are from Europe and appreciate a good cup of coffee. They felt there were limited “great” coffeehouses in Los Angeles, and 3 months prior to the start of the pandemic opened its first location in Glendale. They survived and now the location at 1115 S Hope St is their 3rd location (Sherman Oaks being the other).

Paul advised that they are unique in that they roast their own coffee (in downtown) using “their own unique recipe flavors in house.” They use predominantly medium roasted beans. For their espresso, they use beans exclusively from Nicaragua or Peru. For drip coffees, they rotate a variety of single origins. You can enjoy a cup of coffee and pastries in a comfortable local setting, take it to go, or buy 12 oz bags of freshly roasted beans.

Over the next 3-4 weeks they will be adding a quick bite breakfast and lunch fare such as avocado toast. They opened in South Park with a soft opening on May 19. Paul selected the South Park location as “it is very residential. Whether you are coming from home, or work, it is your home away from home.”  Paul really appreciates the welcoming from residents of the neighborhood and is grateful for their support.

Paul advised that they see themselves as “that local coffeehouse where regulars can get good coffee, good food, and good conversation.” Ideology Coffee offers an easy to administer loyalty program that earns 1 point per drink ordered with redemption after 12 drinks (points). The accounting is tracked automatically based on the customer's phone number.

When you get a chance, I suggest you stop in and say hello to Paul, Dimitri (Manager), Rachel, and Stephanie. We believe they are a wonderful addition to our South Park neighborhood. Ideology Coffee is open 7 days a week – Monday – Friday from 7 am to 3 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 8 am to 3 pm. Starting in June, other food items will be added to the menu in additional to the mouth-watering pastries.  Enjoy life at Ideology Coffee!
