Meet the New SPBID Executive Director Nolan Marshall III

With work experience in business and neighborhood improvement organizations spanning 15 years, Nolan Marshall III now joins the South Park Business Improvement District (SPBID) as Executive Director.

Nolan came to business improvement/neighborhood work after losing his business to Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Nolan wanted to do more than rebuild a business, he wanted to help rebuild a place – New Orleans – his hometown. He started working with Common Good whose purpose was to solve the difficult challenges of rebuilding New Orleans. That led to leadership positions with neighborhood/business organizations in New Orleans, Dallas, and most recently Vancouver.

Building a community that supports every stage of a person’s life from young to old, single to family with kids, birth to retirement is Nolan’s description of a neighborhood.  That translates to neighborhoods with green space, community centers, culture and public art, schools and parks, businesses to support a diverse population, a safe environment. Nolan promotes public amenities for all to use, opportunities to meet and engage with neighbors, “put more eyes and ears on the street to provide a level of safety, and build a neighborhood that has a story to tell.”

Nolan says his role in growing a neighborhood includes building and managing relationships with all stakeholders, easing tensions between various factions, to disagree without being disagreeable, and to “build a team at SPBID to take on that work.”

Nolan is nationally known among BIDs and downtown associations having hosted the International Downtown Association Annual meeting last October in Vancouver where he headed the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association. He sits on the IDA (International Downtown Association) Board.

Nolan and his family - wife Lindsey, Graham, 7, Oakland, 3, and their miniature schnauzer Larry David will be living in South Park. The last 10 years, Nolan has been able to walk to work. He will be able to continue that habit.

Look for Nolan and family in the neighborhood and at any basketball game at Crypto.com Arena where the New Orleans Pelicans will be playing. In the spirit of neighborliness, if you have children and want to welcome the Marshall children to South Park, please email spnadtla@gmail.comwith your contact information for us to pass along. Please welcome Nolan, Lindsey, Graham, Oakland, and Larry David to South Park!
