Moxy + AC Hotels Coming Soon to South Park

The opening of the Moxy + AC Hotels, brands of Marriott Hotels and Resorts on Figueroa at Pico, scheduled to open on December 15.

The 2 hotels are in the same building and share common spaces but each appeal to different audiences. Moxy is described as stylish and playful with “small but smart rooms, stylish communal spaces, and bars you’ll love.” AC, in more than 20 countries, is described as “elegant, purposeful design, flexible spaces, and carefully crafted.” Also, AC is described as “more subtle” than its vibrant sister Moxy.

South Park Neighborhood Association (SPNA) met with James Pugh of Sheppard Mullin, representing the hotel project, to discuss the project. Pugh shared:

·      Moxy lobby is on first floor while AC’s lobby is on the 34th floor via the Sky Lobby Elevator.

·      The lobby has a bar, restaurant, and patio for dining.

·      The 8th floor has restaurants, lounges/bars, pool deck, and terrace. Fun spaces with surprises.

·      The 34th floor has a terrace, library, lounge, restaurants, and lobby for the AC Hotel.

·      Multiple restaurants with a variety of choices from refined dining to Argentinian/Brazilian, Japanese, sushi, margaritas and tacos.

·      Rooftop space on 36th floor with panorama views of the city.

·      No ballroom but space for breakout sessions for the working guests.

·      Smaller rooms but more entertainment in the hotels. 727 guestrooms, 12 restaurants/bars/lounges, and a “Miami-meets-Copacabana pool deck.”

·      Both hotels have affordable price points.

·      There are 2 retail spaces facing Figueroa – no tenants yet.

One of the most publicized features is the 15,000 square foot video wall along Figueroa that wraps the corner at Pico and is up and running. The continuous full-motion video display is 50 ft. tall and made of 225,000 pounds of structural steel and is the largest video wall on the West Coast. It rivals Times Square! Go see for yourself while you wait for the hotels to open.
