Support Our Next-Door Neighborhood by Volunteering for FaithsGiving

“The story is inspirational. More than any other holiday, Thanksgiving goes to the heart of who we are, and what we do at the Pico Union Project,” said Pico-Union neighbor Craig Taubman, Founder of FaithsGiving.

“Every year for the past 8 years we have celebrated the holiday with a community street festival we call FaithsGiving. We close the streets, distribute 1,000 turkeys, thousands of pounds of produce, clothing, books, and more to our Pico Union neighbors. But what we really distribute is love, a sense of hope, and the promise of building a new, stronger, and healthier community.

We call it FaithsGiving for a reason. This effort, and everything we do at Pico Union Project, is grounded in faith and giving. If you live in Los Angeles, I invite you to support FaithsGiving by purchasing a turkey or signing up to volunteer HERE.

Wherever you live, consider giving back to at-risk people in your community. A Thanksgiving box with a blanket, hygiene kit, socks, bottles of water, and non-perishable food items is a precious gift. A brighter tomorrow begins today and starts with You.”

The South Park Neighborhood Association feels this is an extremely worthwhile event for us to show our support to our neighbors as well as the feel-good opportunity to give back to a community that is in need. If you would like to join a group of South Park neighbors who will walk over to the Pico Union Project on Nov 22nd at 2:00, please contact us at spnadtla@gmail.com.

The Pico-Union Neighborhood is just blocks west of South Park. The neighborhood has a dense population of over 40,000 residents. In 2000, about 85% were Latinos with 65% of the residents born abroad. The medium household income in 2008 was $26,424.

Craig Taubman, singer/songwriter and Pico Union Project founder, purchased the building (originally home of Sinai Temple from 1909-1926) in 2013 for the project. His vision has become a beacon of hope and love for the community by offering different denominations use of the building and distributing 10,000-20,000 pounds of produce and non-perishable items to the community every Friday. They do a lot more. I encourage you to get inspired and enlightened about the Pico Union Project story at their website www.picounionproject.org or by clicking  HERE.

We wish you and your loved ones an incredibly Happy Thanksgiving!
