Neighbors Met State Rep Candidate Sade Elhawary
Sade Elhawary, candidate for California State Assembly for the South Park area, attended the September 19 candidate event sponsored by DTLA RA (Downtown Los Angeles Residents Association) along with SPNA (South Park Neighborhood Association). Sade mingled and talked with the 100+ neighbors and presented her 5-minute speech to the group.
Sade Elhawary introduced herself as a Democrat, educator, and community organizer. She worked for the Community Coalition in South LA that was founded by Mayor Karen Bass. Sade worked on Bass’ mayoral campaign in 2022 as well.
Sade talked about (1) the need for more affordable house – more adaptative reuse of vacant buildings as one example to solve the problem, (2) the need to support the younger generation - help younger people with education, housing, and a career, (3) health care and mental health care for all, (4) as a child of immigrants, support for all people including immigrants.
Sade also listed on her website additional work she is committed to (1) provide the full range of reproductive services—including abortion care—to everyone in need, (2) improve public education, (3) target resources to support environmental justice in communities of need.
