New Owner at Hope Street Café and Bakery

A long time and revered South Park business has recently changed hands.  The Hope Street Café and Bakery has been purveying coffee, sandwiches, and yummy pastries for better than seven years from its prominent location in the Luma building next to Prank.  The Café’s previous owner, known by all as Mike, is retiring from ownership to pay attention to several physical issues that need to be addressed.

The business’s new owner, Donovan Grant, has been a resident of Los Angeles for 15 years and originally hails from Jamaica.  He is a member of a large family responsible for a successful Jamaican Restaurant in the Crenshaw area and is anxious to bring that success to South Park.

I spoke with Donovan and found him to be gregarious and friendly and eager to join the South Park Community.  He plans no big changes and to take it slow and easy for a while and build on Mike’s success.

Mike’s menu of tasty sandwiches will remain un-changed except for the addition of a delicious Jamaican Patty specialty that will be new to the menu.   Scrumptious pastries and cakes will continue to be available daily.  The only big change will be the Hope Street Café will now be open seven days per week and for longer hours.  The staff has been enlarged to promote quick service.

Mike has conveyed his gratitude to all his loyal customers for a great seven-year run.  He promised me he will return in a few months as an employee following his recovery.
