The Science of Beauty at MedBeautyLA
South Park has its share of spas of various kinds, but South Park's MedBeautyLA (1100 S. Hope) is a medical spa that stands out. The key word is medical and for those, like myself – a man, unfamiliar with the spa treatment, I appreciated how much they are rooted in the science of beauty.
Three dedicated rooms house the many different treatments offered, ranging from a simple facial to jawline shaping. It's not magic; these medical specialists fully use their knowledge of treating the body as the organism it is and not as a mask to wear over ourselves. They are helping you give your body the nutrients and care it wants and craves. There are even boot camps that help you see results in what you want with the help of at home training so you can learn exactly what to do to take care of your body after the boot camp has transformed you.
There was plenty I learned about taking care of my face because they customize the treatment to the unique characteristics of each guest's skin. For myself, I learned I had combination skin, after years of assuming it was only oily skin since that was the most obvious. Therefore, they used a combination of hydration for the dry and toner for the oily pores.
The work on my face was done by specialist Joanna who is the Director of Aesthetics for MedBeautyLA. My organic sea salt facial resulted in probably years of built up dead skin cells falling off my skin. Throughout my facial routine, I had a series of items applied to my face. My face was first washed, cleared of blackheads and exfoliated with a small machine that felt like a light brushing on my skin. Then came a skin-type specific ultrasound mask lightly massaged on that delivered hydrating antioxidants. Following this was a direct infrared light on my face for 15 minutes which helped reduce post-procedure inflammation and other skin issues.
At the end, I was left with what felt like the clean and smooth skin of a baby which left me (and my girlfriend) especially in awe of my transformation. The experience was calming, relaxing, and welcoming thanks to the meditative simplicity of its space as much as the people who worked there helping me appreciate reaching my full potential.
These services are brought to the community thanks to owner Dr. Lori Aliksanian who brought her surgical background in wound healing to everyday skin care. As a South Park resident and South Park’s business representative on DLANC (Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council), Dr. Lori is proud of contributing her expertise to the evolution of downtown LA and South Park. For anyone wanting to transform their appearance (including men who make up 45% of their business) and learn about improving their bodies, you have only to visit MedBeautyLA. Meet Dr. Lori and her team and see what they can do for you.
